Neutering your Pet.
Sligo Spca strongly recommends that you neuter your pets at a very early age in order to prevent unwanted litters. We provide a Subsidised Neutering Scheme to encourage you to do this. The scheme is not means tested and is available to the general public.
- Female Dogs €60 any breed - any size.
- Male Dogs €40 any breed – any size.
- Female Cats €30
- Male Cats €20
How it works:
Please send a Stamped Self Addressed envelope with the appropriate amount to:

Include a note with the pets Name, Age, Breed and Sex. Or download and Print the Application form.
We will return a Neutering Voucher for use at a designated Veterinary clinic. On receipt of the Neutering Voucher you will need to make an appointment with the vet to have the neutering carried out.
STRAY CATS: In order to try to combat the increasing stray cat problem we are running a TNR (Trap, Neuter and Release) scheme which is run in much the same way as the Subsidised Neutering Scheme except that the voucher is purchased for a flat rate of €20 per cat (Female or Male) on condition that the cat/s are returned to where they were taken from. A trap and cage can be collected by prior arrangement from the shelter in order to transport the cat/s to the vets for neutering. There is no charge for this trap. A refundable deposit of €100 is payable at time of collection of the trap from the shelter. A time limit also applies as it works on a waiting list basis. The trap and Cage must be collected on a Saturday and returned on the following Thursday. So make sure you borrow it at a time when you can organise trapping of the cat, and transportation to and from the vets. This is the only longterm and humane solution that we can offer to the stray cat problem.

NOTE: FOR THOSE IN RECEIPT OF CERTAIN SOCIAL WELFARE ALLOWANCES A BRISISH ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP CALLED “DOGS TRUST” HAVE A SCHEME OPERATING IN IRELAND WHEREBY YOU CAN HAVE YOUR DOG /S (Male or Female) NEUTERED FOR €14 PER DOG. THE MAJORITY OF VETERINARY PRACTICES IN IRELAND ARE INVOLVED IN THIS SCHEME. PLEASE CONTACT ANY VET FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE “DOGS TRUST” SCHEME.
