Have you ever dreamed of running, cycling, walking, sailing along a particular route, jumping out of a plane, or climbing a particular mountain, but never quite got around to it?
Then why not make that dream a reality and do some good, while you feel good about doing the challenge!
- Spread the word
Encourage friends and colleagues to support the Sligo S.P.C.A. Talk to local clubs, groups and organisations about the work of the Sligo S.P.C.A.
- Special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, retirement, new job etc. always provide an excuse for a celebration and often family, friends and colleagues ask the question as to what to buy as a gift. Whilst this is a nice problem to have, often thinking of what you can ask for is not allways easy particularly as we reach our older years and often we have many of the things we desire. So why not use the opportunity to ask for a donation to Sligo S.P.C.A. instead of a gift? You could always turn the whole celebration into a fundraising bash!
- Recommend the Sligo S.P.C.A. to be beneficiary of an annual fundraising event thatt you are aware of.
- Many companies respond to their employees' suggestions for donations so find out what your employer's policy is on charity giving and nominate the Sligo S.P.C.A. to be a recipient of any awards made. Remind them that donations over €250 are tax deductible!
- Ask your local pub landlord if you can put a large soft toy animal on the bar. Give the toy a name like "Lucky" and get people to buy it drinks each round. All the money goes into a collecting tin on the counter beside the toy. You would be amazed how much money can be raised this way over a weekend or two!
- Start a swear box in work or at home and get people to put in €1 for every bad word.
- Take Home Meals - If you like to cook, offer a service in work where colleagues can preorder lunches or even dinners which you cook and bring to them. They can then eat or reheat the food depending on type. Frozen dinners and lunches could be made in advance and produced on demand. Charging €5 for a good lunch and €10 for a dinner with proceeds going to help the animals.
- Picnic Basket Auction - put together the coolest looking picnic baskets and auction off to highest bidder or offer them as a raffle prizes.
- For a donation to the Sligo S.P.C.A. you could offer to do people's weekly food shop.
- Hole in One - For this one you need a good prize. Get golf enthusiasts to pay €2 a go to get a hole in one at a local golf course. If nobody manages to get a hole in one, give the prize to the person who got the closest at the end of the event.
- Stars in Your Eyes - Laugh at your colleagues miming to their favourite tunes in your very own Stars in Your Eyes competition, everyone makes a donation to the Sligo S.P.C.A. for taking part.
- Swap Shop - Bring in your old CDs, Videos and DVDs to work. Swap with other colleagues and make a donation to the Sligo S.P.C.A.
- Carol Singing - A lovely way to get into the festive spirit and raise money at the same time.
- Have a Barbeque afternoon/evening with visitors donating food and drinks. Charge a fee and give each person a voucher booklet for one drink, one burger and a plate of salad. Charge extra for second helpings.
- Collection Boxes - Raise money for the animals by placing large containers (i.e. 5 litre water container) in each classroom. Each class should compete to see how many 5, 10, or 20-cent coins they could bring in. The class with the most could be given a prize.
- The important thing is to try something and no matter how small it will be of value to the Sligo S.P.C.A. The more people that raise a little the more it helps. It is extremely difficult for the Society to raise large sums, as we are competing with so many other worthy charities, so that's why we are turning to you, as friend and members to ask for your help.
- Please try and raise a little, it really does help a lot.
