YOUR HELP NEEDED

There are many ways in which you can help, even if you have very limited time. Please consider one of the following:

  1. Become a supporter member for € 100.00 a year and keep up to date with our developments and events.
  2. Volunteer to help with fundraising events that range from Charity Sales to street collections, to sponsored walks like our annual Crazy for Creatures Walk
  3. Organise a Fundraiser: (Click on any of the links for more information)
    1. Organising a Sponsored Event
    2. Help With Planning your Fundraising
    3. Fundraising Ideas
  4. Turn out your cupboards, lofts, garages and hidey-holes and donate to us any clean, unbroken, saleable items that we can sell at the Charity Sales or Car Boot Sales. We are also grateful for unwanted boxes of chocolates, toiletries, bottles of wine or spirits, tins of sweets/biscuits etc for tombola and raffle prizes
  5. If you have access to a photocopier you may be able to help by running off some posters or newsletters
  6. We are also looking for some specific items for the Shelter - maybe you know of some that are no longer in use which could be donated to us:
electric cement mixer, manure forks, spades, shovels, wheelbarrows, gates, fencing and gate posts, green oxide paint and white weathercoat paint, hay and straw, flowering bulbs and shrubs, trees, animal feedstuffs, dog and cat collars and leads, pet carriers, baskets and beds, horse/pony headcollars and leadropes, grooming equipment, old blankets, hot water bottles and virtually any kind of building and carpentry tools.
  7. Most importantly, if you see an animal in distress, being ill-treated, neglected or abandoned, please call us. Your call will be treated in the strictest confidence and your name will not be passed outside the office. If leaving a message on the answer phone PLEASE leave a contact number as we often need to clarify details and directions with you before or during an investigative call.
  8. PLEASE CONSIDER OFFERING A PERMANENT, LOVING HOME TO ONE OF OUR RESCUED ANIMALS. If you are thinking of getting a new family pet, please consider a rescue animal. We may not have specific breeds or colours but a great deal of care will be taken to match your needs with those of the animal in question. Either call us direct or, for dogs and cats, contact our kennels on 087 2166216
All animals adopted from the SSPCA will be neutered/spayed, wormed and vaccinated. A preliminary homecheck will be required prior to acceptance with a facility for future homechecks on a continuing basis at the Society's discretion.
  9. NEUTER AND SPAY - IT'S THE KINDEST WAY! If you REALLY want to make a difference to animal abuse and neglect please ensure that all your animals, not specifically kept and approved for breeding, are neutered or spayed. Rescue centres all over the country are permanently full with unwanted, stray and abandoned animals due to the sheer volume of unnecessary and indiscriminate breeding. It is NOT kind to allow animals as young as six months of age to become pregnant, nor is it acceptable to drown or otherwise dispose of unwanted kittens, puppies, rabbits, hamsters etc by any other means than humane destruction by a qualified vet.
Prevention is far, far, better than destruction!
Any male animal from a guinea pig to a horse can usually be neutered and most small- animal females too. It may seem an expensive option but so is feeding a litter of young for which you may not find suitable homes. Please contact your VET and book an appointment today.
  10. Please consider making a bequest to Sligo SPCA in your Will
By naming the Sligo SPCA in your WillBank Name:  Bank of Ireland you help ensure the future of the Society throughout forthcoming generations, thereby guaranteeing continuity of our work to provide improved care and better education for the animals of our county. The two most usual ways to leave a bequest are to:
    1. Leave a Legacy - a gift of a specified amount of money, or,
    2. Make a Residual Bequest: ie. the remainder of your assets that have not been distributed are left to the person or organisation of your choice.
Please make it clear to your solicitor that you wish to make your bequest to the Sligo SPCA and not the ISPCA. These are independent organisations that would not normally benefit the other. Thank you.

Our banking details are as follows:
Name of Bank (Bank of Ireland)
    Branch:         Ballymote,  Co. Sligo
    Account No:  29819757
    Sort Code: 90 52 80
Name of Account: Sligo Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ltd.

Your help is invaluable - the Sligo SPCA cannot exist without the support and involvement of people like yourself! Sligo's animals need you.
