ELMO'S STORY
On 19th. October last Elmo was found lying in a ditch by the roadside in Gurteen Co. Sligo. We can only presume that he was run over by a car, possibly the previous night, and left to lie there in agonising pain.
The vet confirmed that both sides of his pelvis were so badly fractured it was impossible to carry out the necessary surgery locally. In order to save him he would have to be sent to a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon in Dublin for an operation to repair all the damage. Considering his young age and the good prognosis for a full recovery, it was decided to proceed with the operation to save this young life, despite the cost.
What a remarkable dog Elmo turned out to be! He has made an incredibly quick recovery here at the shelter. Considering all his discomfort and all his confinement this dog has the most remarkable nature and will make somebody a really good companion later on, when he has made a full recovery.
